Workbook Unit 4 Answers

UNIT 4

Exercise 1
1.     On Tuesday, a jumbo jet that was carrying 382 passengers and an Air Force plane missed each other by 15 meters in midair over the Atlantic Ocean. A spokesperson for the airline company, which reported the near miss in a statement yesterday, said the incident happened so quickly that neither pilot had time to take evasive action. “There was no warning whatsoever,” said the captain of the jumbo jet. He looked out of the window and saw the tail of the Air Force plane as it was disappearing into the clouds.

2.     A jogger got the shock of his life when he was jogging around a city park on Saturday. “As I was passing under a large tree, I felt something drop on me,” he recalled. “At first, I thought it was a branch, but then I realized it was a snake! I couldn’t believe it! Then the guy running ahead of me turned around and saw it slide off. The snake wasn’t particularly big, but it gave me quite a shock all the same.” A snake expert said the snake was probably a python, which is non-poisonous.

Bob and I had just gotten engaged, so we went to a jewelry store to buy a wedding ring. We had just chosen a ring when a man with a gun came in. After the robber had taken Bob’s wallet, he demanded the ring. I had just handed it to him when the alarm started to go off, and the robber ran off. We were so relieved! But then the sales assistant told us we had to pay for the ring because I had given it to the robber. We had just told her that we wouldn’t pay for it when the police arrived and arrested us!
